Coburg Drive-in

You may be under the misapprehension that drive-in theatres died back in the eighties. They didn't. In fact we still have three kicking around here in Victoria, the most popular situated just outside the city of Melbourne in Coburg. I unashamedly confess I'm a huge fan of the drive-in. Always have been, always will be. I'm more than a little sad that there isn't one closer to me but I live in hope that they may, one day, be resurrected.

The drive-in has oodles of advantages over the cinema. Number one being your movie experience isn't rudely interrupted by Declan and his rustling chip packet a few seats down or Blondie who is unquestionable so darn important that she needs to be available at any given moment to take a call or answer a text. Of course, you can rustle your own chip packet to your heart's content in the privacy of your own family sedan or chick-magnet-sports-car minus the death stares and "shushes".

Dogs and kids are also welcome at the drive-in. My dog was a regular at the Croydon drive-in during the late eighties. Soak up a summer night breeze by bringing your own folding chairs and sitting in front of your car on warm night. And gone are the days were you had to be content with a crackly annoying speaker. Now you can listen through your car speakers.

Coburg drive-in has three screens, a cafeteria and has two screenings after dark. You can even place your munchie order via sms and have it delivered right to your car! If you've never been to the drive-in now is the time! If you're an old hat and remember them from your youth then take a trip down memory lane and get on down to Coburg.
